I’m not going to go into the “what is it?” detail here.

In the U.S., you’re probably not going to find much beyond Camel and General. Unless you’re going to a specialty tobacco shop, you’re apt to run in to stock that’s been on the shelf longer than the best-by date, and improperly stored. You want Swedish snus from Sweden.

It used to be very easy to buy in the US, but 2025 has brought along many changes, and as a result, snus isn’t quite as easy to procure as in the good old days.

Buy Safely.
Speaking only personally, since mid-2025, the only place I’ve personally bought from is SnusPort. That’s not a ringing endorsement, and I don’t get any sort of kickback for it. It’s just that places like SnusMe, SnusDepot, Snus24, and several others have stopped shipping Swedish snus to the United States.

Be Ready for Expensive Shipping
More often than not, though, you’re going to get hit with shipping fees that are $30 or more. However, this almost always means that you’re getting express shipping, with all of the customs pitfalls taken care of for you.

Customs is a mixed bag now.
Back when I started this site, it used to say (and I’m paraphrasing here) “Don’t worry too much about customs.” But again, 2025 changed things for enthusiasts, and many, many people have reported problems with customs. From the FDA’s “red list” to unexpected tariffs and import fees, you’re kind of taking your chances here.

It’s not a “You’re going to go to jail” kind of thing, but you may have your shipment seized and destroyed. And if that happens, there’s not a lot anyone’s going to do about it.

Watch Those Fees!
The best part is that many dealers will charge you in USD, which can save you money if your bank has a foreign transaction fee. On my “where to buy” page, I’ve personally verified that the sellers charge in US dollars.

If you find your own place, just make sure that they’re billing in US dollars — or that your credit card company doesn’t charge a foreign transaction fee, which can add up to 3% to your cost!

Quantity = Value
When you consider the average price of a can of American smokeless tobacco is probably about $5 or so, the price you’ll find when it comes to snus from Swedish stores is closer to $4.75 after taking in a common 10% off coupon and shipping into consideration.

Here’s how I’m getting to that number:
Average price of 20 cans: $3.69 / each | $73.80
10% discount: $7.30
Subtotal: $66.42
Shipping: $28
Total: $94.42
Total per can: $4.72

Can you go cheaper without committing to rolls? Sure. SnusMe had Kapten on sale for almost $2 a can just a couple of weeks ago. XRange, Kaliber, and others are usually under $3.

You can really get maximum value if you’re buying rolls of 10, though. The stores I’ve bought from give you a discount on a roll (usually between 10% – 15%) that stacks with a coupon and other promotions. So in that context, if your order is for 30 cans, then you’re getting a better deal than if you bought the same quantity from your local gas station — or even Sam’s Club / Costco.

For example’s sake:
At the time of this writing, SnusDirect has several flavors where you get the discounted roll price, plus two extra cans per roll, plus it stacks with coupon. So take Catch XR Licorice, which sells for $2.99 can.
Roll price: $24.99 + 2 free cans
Subtotal: $74.70
– $10 off promo: $64.70
+ Shipping: $28.99
Total: $93.69
Total per can: $2.60 (remember: you’re getting 6 free cans on top of the 10% roll discount and $10 coupon)

I’m going to guess that you already know what snus is, and either use it currently or want to try it.
