Places to Buy Snus

2025 Update

Things have changed in the US, and as a result, SnusPort is pretty much it, if you’re buying in the US.

Old content follows:

NOTICE: I do not receive any referral bonus, commission, or other compensation for anything posted here. At the time of this writing (4/29/2020) I have paid for everything reviewed. If at any time I receive a product for free or substantial discount, that will be noted in the product review.

SnusDirect
A recommendation from the /r/snus FAQ, and one where I’ve finally got around to placing an order on 4/25/2020. When I was last comparison shopping, their prices were just barely higher than SnusMe, and I wasn’t sure if I was going to make use of their rewards program.

I signed up for their newsletter a while ago, and got my first $10 off coupon code a few days ago. Two interesting notes here:

1) The code wasn’t personalized for me, but didn’t work until I logged in to my account.

2) Because they’re converting between USD and SEK, it winds up being not quite $10. In my order, it was just over $11 off.

In any case, I ordered on a Saturday (4/25) night, and it arrived on Wednesday (4/29). Given we’re in the midst of COVID-19 hammering global logistics, I’m pretty impressed.

There are a few things I noticed that were different from ordering from SnusMe. The first being that the package didn’t sail through customs as I’m used to. UPS apparently flopped it over to the FDA? I dunno:

It didn’t seem to delay the shipment, and the packaging wasn’t opened for inspection. SnusMe ships everything in boxes, and SnusDirect takes the bubble mailer route. Maybe the FDA felt the package and were like “Yep. This is just a bunch of snus.” and moved it along

Another thing I noticed: when purchasing the same things from SnusMe and SnusDirect, the items from SnusDirect were quite a bit fresher when counting from production date to the date they arrived at my door.

SnusMe
Almost every time I’ve comparison shopped, the price and shipping from SnusMe.com has been lower than every reputable store I’ve checked.

Most orders have arrived from SnusMe to the Midwest in about three days (including weekends), and their customer service has been nothing short of impeccable in the one instance where my order wasn’t 100% perfect.

I also like that SnusMe ships in boxes instead of bubble mailers. Maybe it’s just psychological, but it seems like better protection. Not to mention, every shipment I’ve received has had a few Swedish candies included.

Although this site is not sponsored, I’ve spoken with Fred over at SnusMe, and he’s been nice enough to offer 10% off to new customers using the code: snusnotes.

SnusCentral
A recommendation from the /r/snus FAQ, they also have first-time customer discounts, but it looks like the codes aren’t perpetual. I hate wasting time with bad codes, and I’m not updating this full time, so poke around their site and you should find 10% or more easily. (If anyone from SnusCentral is reading this and wants to set up a perpetual code, let me know on the contact form at the end of this page.)

Just in my personal browsing experience, I found their prices to be a bit high on snus and shipping, but on the other hand, their selection seems to be quite deep. Tons of people have reported good experiences, though when I placed an order with them, it took nearly five days for them to actually ship it, and another two for UPS to get it from Sweden to my door.

Since then, they send out a lot of coupons for people who buy $200 or more, but not a whole lot else beyond the same “extra can” offer that SnusDirect has going.

Snus24
I’ve visited the site on-and-off for a while, but never quite pulled the trigger… until recently. I came across a 15% off coupon and was surprised to find that a lot of their regular prices are as good or better than some of the other stores have after their own promotions.

For the moment, this is a placeholder until my shipment arrives.

Gas Stations / Convenience Stores / Walgreens
An important thing to keep in mind in the U.S. is that there’s a substantial difference between domestic snus from Camel, Skoal, and others and genuine Swedish snus.

From what I can tell, the only tobacco-based Swedish snus you can get off the shelf here in the U.S. is from General, which is a Swedish Match brand. I’ve seen it at Speedway, a few 7-Eleven stores, and I think (but I’m not positive on this one) Wild Bill’s Tobacco carries it.

When you’re buying General, you want to make sure that:

1) The cans are in a cooler. In all of these stores, there have been shelf-wide coolers inside the racks that usually have cigarettes and other cans of smokeless tobacco. If the store you’re at doesn’t have snus in the cooler, don’t buy it.

2) The back of the can will have a best-by date. These are notoriously overlooked by every store everywhere. Heck, even with cigarettes, I’ve bought pretty mainstream Camel Filters from high-traffic stores that still wound up having promos inside that were a year or older beyond their date. If they aren’t rotating Camels that fast, they’re definitely not rotating snus. Long story short: ask them to look before you buy.

Walgreens (at least, where I live) has replaced all of their e-cigarettes with Zyn nicotine pouches and American snus. However, they just slammed them on the shelf where the ancient vape juice used to be. No cooler, and I can say from having wound up with some ancient cigarettes there, nobody’s checking the dates there to make sure the product is fresh.

IceTool
IceTool isn’t a place to get snus, but is a place where you can pick up some cool accessories. Keep in mind though, IceTool ships from Estonia, and there’s been some weirdness between Estonia and the United States as far as postal mail goes.

For example’s sake: I placed an order on March 23rd, and it didn’t show up until April 16th. But it showed up. And IceTool had it out the door the day after I ordered, so it’s 100% a weird mail thing that it took so long.

Their shipping is free, so the price you see on their site is what you’re paying all-in.

By the way, Google does quick currency conversions if you’re put off by seeing prices in Euros. Just search for “31.66 EUR to USD” (or whatever your total is) to get a reasonably accurate feel for what you’ll pay. They use PayPal’s checkout, so the actual rate will be determined by PayPal, but in my experience, that’s only +/- $0.50 or so.
