O’ Kapten, my Kapten!
This was a “take a chance” purchase for me, because I definitely was not in to Göteborgs Rapé Lingon — despite trying my damndest to like it. Not to mention, Göteborgs Rapé Lingon should be the “premium” choice, and Kapten was dirt cheap.
Right off the bat, Kapten is serious about their seal. This was the first one where I needed something sharper than my fingernail to get the can open.
The first hit on my gums was weirdly cold. Not minty, not overpowering, not even long-lasting. But there was a definite coolness there, that I really enjoy. And, with very limited exception (I’m looking at you, The LAB!) I’m not really big on cold / mint flavors.
Piercing the coolness was a decent lingonberry flavor. At least, I think that’s what it is. We don’t get tons of lingonberry things in everyday life here in the U.S., so I’m mostly basing this on the IKEA juice boxes that I make a point of buying whenever I happen to be there.
Come to think of it, I get a spoon of ligonberry preserves when I go all out for the IKEA meatball dinner. I don’t know why the hell IKEA has a cafeteria. I feel dumb buying anything from it. But I think I’ve done it 9 times out of 10. Mostly for the lingonberry products.
It tastes a lot like that. Like the lighter, more Swedish cousin of a cranberry. Tart, but not “makes you contort your face” tart. Berry flavored, but not candy-like. I’ve never had a plain ligonberry, so it would be pretentious of me to say that this tastes “natural” with any degree of authority. Though, that would be my guess. And it sticks with the portion a bit longer than the cranberry in my beloved Skruf Tranbar.
The balance is excellent. Just enough to keep things interesting. Not so much that you’d really think twice about having this with you daily.
Although this is “extra strong” the drip isn’t harsh at all, and as a white portion, it’s almost too dry. The nicotine buzz creeps on you to create a smooth plateau for at least a good hour.
How is this so cheap? I picked it up on sale at SnusMe for just about $2. Thankfully, I picked up more than one!
