Because I liked Americana so much more than I had expected, I picked up some Green Ice and Red Hot in my most recent order. It seemed like it would probably be similar to The Lab #12, which I consider an “all day” snus. As another spearmint slim white portion, I gave it a shot.
The initial burn of Green Ice is quite a bit stronger than The Lab #12, but nothing approaching Oden’s Cold Portion. I think the burn might come from eucalyptus? The spearmint comes on quickly, but where I praised The Lab for coming close to a Dentyne kind of flavor, Green Ice comes across more like used gum. Like you had been chewing some spearmint Trident, put it aside to have lunch, and then started chewing it again.
In other words: you get a spearmint flavor, but it isn’t “fresh”. And what’s worse: it disappears on you. The burn seems to keep up longer than the flavor does. And once the spearmint is gone, you’re left with a ho-hum tobacco flavor that’s pretty one-dimensional.
Nicotine hit is about what you’d get out of a regular white portion, and despite Nick and Johnny being marketed as a strong / extra strong brand, they label this as 2/4.
The drip is very light, but again, The Lab does a better job of it in #12. Portion size is about what I’d expect from a slim — but once again, it isn’t as comfortable or as discreet as The Lab.
What I’m saying here is: you can skip this, and probably be as happy or happier with The Lab #12.
